Treat yourself to a long weekend of yoga August 20-23, 2009. Having done retreats internationally, I am convinced that the valley of Jackson Hole is one of the best places to explore your inner nature. Our days will be spent immersing ourselves in Anusara Yoga® in the spectacular scenery of the Tetons!

We will be staying in the beautiful Teton Mountain Lodge, luxury accommodation just steps away from Grand Teton National Park and one hour south of Yellowstone National Park. Yoga sessions will be held in their lovely studio and outdoors on the adjoining deck as weather permits. Free time will be open to hiking, riding the aerial tram, fishing, horseback riding, mountain climbing, river rafting or simply enjoying the solitude of a quiet mountain lake. All participants will be entitled to a 20% discount on treatments at the Solitude Spa. I look forward to meeting many of you and sharing the sights and amazing energy of Jackson this summer!

Neesha and Cat McCarthy

Neesha and Cat McCarthy

I recently traveled to New Orleans: the crescent city, birthplace of jazz, grounds of recent massive destruction, exodus and transformation. It was my first visit, and I was curious to see how people have fared in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. I must say I was so impressed! Everyone seemed to be blending the best of old New Orleans tradition with the vitality of new beginnings.

The purpose of my trip was to teach at beautiful Swan River Yoga. My friend and fellow teacher Cat McCarthy and myself had received a gracious invitation from co-owners Michelle Baker and Keith Porteus to guest instruct. With two colorful and funky studios under one roof, Swan River Yoga represents a skillful blend of their love for Jivamukti and Anusara Yoga.® Though still young, Swan River has already built an amazing community that honors diversity.

By the end of winter I’m ready to escape from frosty Jackson Hole and venture off to a warm and relaxing environment. Last year I experienced the Haramara Retreat Center in Sayulita, Mexico and FELL IN LOVE! The moment I stepped foot onto this gorgeous property overlooking the Pacific Ocean, I felt a sense of peace and tranquility. All of my worries slipped away as the stunning surroundings offered up a profound connection to nature and its harmony. Haramara is an amazing place to practice yoga, eat healthy & decadent food, soak up the sun and have fun!

I’ve decided to go back with some students from Jackson and we invite you and your friends to come along for a week of pure Mexican bliss! Every day will be filled with yoga, pranayama, meditation, and some yummy thai massage. You’ll also have free time to peruse local attractions, check out the surf spots, maybe take a lesson or two, or straight lounge on the beach! This will be an inspiring and supportive environment to expand your Yoga practice! ☺

When: May 9-16, 2009
Where: Haramara Retreat Center Sayulita, Mexico
With: Adi Amar & Angela Tong

Neesha on El Potrero Chico

Neesha on El Potrero Chico

Living life fully for me has included a recent trip to Mexico. I rang in 2009 at the feet of some very powerful limestone cliffs called “El Potrero Chico”.

The questing into the unknown was done in a Volkswagen Westfalia named “Baby J” with my beloved Mark. It was great always having a mini-home (even if it didn’t go for a few days). Hardships of travel become opportunities to remain grounded in my Self and be skillful in action; mindful, kind, and in alignment with the highest good.

I gained new insight in climbing – the power of intention rewarded me on a hard climb – it was only my intention that kept me from not giving up. I gained insight and strength by pushing myself beyond my normal routines. I also learned how to pause and listen in uncomfortable situations. Overall, the time was sprinkled by mostly sunny days, new friends, a rekindled adoration of Mexican dogs, culture, growth, love, and fun!

training together

beautiful and inspiring

I have been so fortunate to be able to continue my growth and expansion of yoga. My most recent experience was in Park City, UT with Baron Baptiste. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Baron he is known for Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga. Baron’s approach is to empower and encourage the student to really expand into their fullest potential, into his or her authentic nature, dissolving that which holds us back, and actively accepting who we are and who we are not. His sense of humor and simplicity keeps you engaged and interested… the time just fly’s. His flow is accessible to anyone… with simple modifications it could be more or less intense.

Going into the training I had no expectations or even any idea as to what I was about to experience. Baron shared his passion and inspiration for yoga in a very accessible and powerful way. It is always so interesting to me to see all the different ways that yoga is being shared and taught throughout the world. People from a variety of backgrounds were present for this playful weekend adventure.

I am still vibrating in the wake of 800 yogis playing together in Estes Park, CO a few weeks ago for the first ever Anusara Yoga Grand Gathering! We convened together with beloved teachers and friends from around the world to celebrate our connection, weaving our unique personalities into one colorful, creative display of living art and yoga!

At this 3-day gathering, we began each morning with a guided meditation. Sally Kempton, Douglas Brooks and Bill Mahoney led the group through profound inward journeys. After that, John Friend led all 800 of us through a yoga practice for 3 hours. His ability to extend himself to everyone is phenomenal. As he skillfully led us through masterful sequencing, he focused on embodying basic virtues of the heart.

I spent Monday afternoon with Douglas Brooks. Like a sponge, I soaked up his inspired and light filled reflections on the Bhagavad Gita. One of the most profound teachings I walked away with was an opportunity to open up the midline of my own experience- to become Read the rest of this entry »

It’s great to be back in Jackson with my home kula!

My retreat with Paul Muller-Ortega and his friends rocked my world in the most positive ways.  Paul teaches clarity, understanding, and deep respectful love.  The combination of his teachings and the opportunity to practice with like-minded soul buddies transformed my inner landscape to one of greater ease and strength.  His guidance has prepared me even more for the journey ahead!

Me and G :)

Me and G :)

Hi everyone… I recently returned to Jackson from Kripalu in Lenox, Massachusetts where I was practicing with Gurmukh at a women’s retreat.

the practice space

Gurmukh’s name means “One who helps people across the world ocean”…and let me tell you it was inspirational…we were up at 4:30am every morning for sadhana… morning practice which invigorated and inspired us for the day’s teaching!

Since that retreat I have committed to early morning sadhana, before the sun rises 3-6am is known in many traditions as the “Amrit Vela”–the time of nectar. It is the time before not only the sun rises, but the population rises and therefore everything is still, quiet and divine. Gurmukh promises if you can do your sadhana at this time of day the effects will be even more powerful. Read the rest of this entry »

Absorka Mountain Range - Dubois, Wyoming

Absorka Mountain Range - Dubois, Wyoming

Six gates took me to the Diamond G ranch in Dubois, WY where a women’s retreat was shared amongst 9 old friends. Friday afternoon I arrived to an expansive valley surrounded by the towering cliffs of the Absorka Mountain range. The beauty that engulfed me was absolutely breathtaking. I was greeted by 9 beautiful women who had grown deep hearted friendships for the past 35 years.
My intention was to share with them calming and relaxing yoga practices to enrich and rejuvenate their beings from the hustle and bustle of their daily lives. We all united in a large barn to share breathing and stretching techniques to restore and refresh.

After yoga we found our way back to the main house where dinner was served. With ease they shared their history of how they all knew one another, and before I knew it I was invited into their circle of love. The stories went back 35 years … laughter and memories surfaced as I listened to how life experience has taught and grown a deep wisdom within these women.

Beautiful melodies hummed form Marilee’s voice and guitar as we sat around the old wood table. Two candles flickered a peaceful glow across the faces of these incredible women. As they sang old songs about peace and love I felt the most amazing bond and energy. Read the rest of this entry »
