Ayurvedic wisdom is awesome because it shows us exactly how to position ourselves to experience vibrant health. In a nutshell, Ayurveda explains that we want to counter balance the qualities we see occurring in Nature with opposing qualities in our diets, activities and lifestyle choices. The logic is that too much of a good thing….is not a good thing.
For example, having a glass of iced tea when it’s snowing outside will make us shiver. Our bodies then have to work really hard to get us feeling comfortable again. Lots of energy is wasted in this pendulum-like process.
So, Ayurveda tells us that Fall (vata season) carries with it dry, rough, light, cold, subtle & mobile qualities. One way we can achieve balance in the Fall is by eating foods that ground, moisten, nurture and warm the body. Sweet, sour and salty tasting foods are the ideal candidates for the job.
Here are some examples of foods to include in your Fall meals:
….* fresh sweet fruits like mango, coconut, berries and peaches
….* fresh sour fruits like cherries, plums, green grapes, lemon and limes
….* sweet veggies like corn and peas
