Maintaining mobility in your hips can prevent stiffness and irritation from occurring in your lower back, knees and legs. Loosen up and stretch out in this short sequence of hip openers with Neesha, and find yourself on the path to a brighter and more balanced you!

Thanks, Neesha…my classes always want more and more hip openers, so I appreciate a little different flow to address the hips. You have a great spirit and always manage to make me smile!

I just found out I have osteoarthritis and most of it is in the right side hip, the whole right side of my body is in quit a bit of pain.
I thought yoga would be a good choice for me to do for exercise.
Right now I am in alot of pain and gaining weight because I cannot do to much at this time
Would you be able to tell me what poses I should be doing, I’m not sure at this time what I can do but want to do something to stengthen my right side. The Dr. is taking about possible operation.
Maybe a good sight with exercise like this above would be great or any ideas would be very helpfull.
Thank You
Terry
Dear Terry,
Yoga will be fabulous for you. You should seek instruction personally so that the instructor can see that you are doing the actions and movements correctly.
For your condition, Muscle energy is key, as well as good alignment and Organic extension after you get the bones aligned. These Anusara Yoga Universal Principles of Alignment can help your body out.
You can find a good teacher in your area by going to the Anusara.com website. Proceed to the Teachers Directory. Then type in your state. Certified teachers will pop up then. If you cant find any, look for Anusara Inspired teachers. This way, you can be assured that your teacher has good training in alignment, therapeutics and biomechanics.
Good luck, and email me back if you have more questions.
Neesha
Hi Neesha, thank you for all the fantastic work you do keeping us healthy and well-balanced.
It may be a bit of a tricky subject, but I was wondering if you could give some guidance for women with larger breasts. In positions like the lunge at the beginning of this hip-opening sequence, for example, I find myself having to make a decision about where my breasts should go with respect to the knee that’s against my chest, and vice-versa. Should the knee be between the two breasts, or on the outer side of the breast in question (i.e. pressing the knee in closer to the armpit)? If I put the knee where I actually think it should go (which is somewhere between the two positions I just described), it basically squashes my breast against my chest, which is quite uncomfortable, and I lose concentration because I’m just juggling my knee around with my breasts and trying to find a configuration that works while still maintaining proper form.
Any pointers you could give would be very helpful, as this issue comes up in quite a few poses. Thank you!
Thanks Neesha!
I love all of your sequencing! This is a nice one to offer to my classes. I am so happy Yoga Today is available- it enables me to maintain my own practice which is difficult to do as an instructor.
You all have great energy!
Thank you.

Thank you so much for this series. I sit in a chair all day and my hips are always really tight. I absolutely love hip-openers.
Thank you so much for Yoga Today. I don’t have enough money to always go to a studio so I love being able to still do different classes.

It was great to see some new poses for hips. I was born with a clicky right hip that just slightly faces in the wrong direction, this puts the alignment of my knee and ankle out and can be quite painful. Yoga is the only practice that makes a difference and my home practice has evolved to meet this. I am always looking for new and gentle ways to improve and adapt that area so thanks for the advice.
Best Wishes
Sharon
Thanks for the great post. It was really informative and definitely will be recommended for my clients.
Melissa, I have the same issue (larger breasts). I position my knee on the outside, between my breast and armpit. I find that this is how I naturally line up anyway if my hips are squared off, and this is what feels comfortable to me. Hope that helps : )
